A traditional 2-day stay between relaxation and discovery
This stay makes you discover Gabon’s cultural heritage during a weekend in the village Douani. Through hands-on workshops, you practice artisanal fishing and hunting techniques, learn the basics of basket making, or shape your own musical arc. This 2-day excursion is also meant to be cultural, with the opportunity to visit the iconic “Mission des Trois Epis” a catholic mission based in this village since 1899. On site, you are housed in Safari tents in an idyllic setting between river and forest. A wonderful journey following the paths of the well-known abbot Raponda Walker.

artisanal fishing
Build your own fishing material and check the result by yourself. Proposed artisanal skills include seine, float and hawk fishing, depending on the level of the river and the season.
traditional hunting
Learn to identify and follow antelopes’, wild boars’ and other animals’ paths. Build a natural trap in the jungle under a traditional hunter’s supervision.
musical arc
Build your own musical arc and learn the melodial basics thereof. As an emblematic music instrument of Gabon, there is no way around it during Bwiti ceremonies.
Gastronomy and planting
Discover plantings of tubes (yam and manioc), banana trees, cocoa, pineapples, etc… From clearing to harvesting, win a deep insight into the different methods used in traditional planting. Cook and taste traditional Gabonese meals.
Culture
Visit the emblematic catholic mission “Mission des Trois-Epis” founded in the twentieth century and the surprising lien it has with…the Eiffel tower ! The workshop leads you subsequently to an industrial saw mil, where you will learn more about the wood industry in Gabon.
Basketry
Learn how to make brushes, bins and other small items that you can take with you!
How to reach the Koussou resort
1h30 from Lambaréné and 30 minutes away from Fougamou
To reach the Koussou camp, just follow the principal national road from Lambaréné in the direction to Fougamou, until you reach the traffic circle of Oyenano, and then take the road leading to Sindara. Once you reached Sindara, follow the road which leads to the catholic mission and follow it until the end. Follow the information signs.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (at least 18 years old).
Transportation Supplement
Koussou can provide transport from Libreville for an additional 50,000 CFA francs per person.
Stay in full board
This excursion is in full board. The prize includes the provision of a Koussou guide (French and English), attendance to 4 traditional workshops, meals and drinks, and accommodation (2 nights).
Transport
The journey to the Koussou camp in Douani can be done with any type of vehicle. However, an off-roader is recommended, especially in the rainy season. On request, Koussou can arrange your transport from Libreville or Lambaréné for a supplement.
Activities and workshops
You select the 4 traditional workshops you would like to attend (fishing, traditional hunting, basketry, etc.). In case that these workshops cannot be put in place (for instance due to heavy rainfalls), alternatives will be proposed.
accommodation
You will sleep in comfortable Safari tents which can accomodate up to 4 persons. The tents are set up to have 1 double bed and 2 single beds (ideal for couples with children) or 4 single beds (perfect for excursions with friends).
